Menopause / Peri-Menopause

As we age our hormones change radically from birth all the way through to our most advanced years of life. Most of these changes are expected and considered “normal” or “natural” by traditional doctors. For women Menopause may happen abruptly but it can also occur slowly over time during the Peri-Menopausal period. We are living longer than ever so people are no longer willing to accept the adage from doctors of years past: “I’m sorry but you’re just getting old”. People are looking for solutions and they want to maintain a healthy quality of life for decades after they have otherwise been written off by traditional medical dogma. This is the role of hormone replacement therapy. HRT-MD invites you to join us as we help you enjoy what should be the best years of your life.

What Is Peri-Menopause and Menopause?

A woman is born with all the eggs she will ever have, and these are stored for future release in the ovaries. Starting with menarche each month a woman goes through a magnificently orchestrated series of hormonal fluctuations as her body prepares for a potential pregnancy. Ovulation releases an egg, and the resultant corpus luteum produces progesterone to balances the effects of estrogen. Because a woman’s eggs age as she does, starting in her 30s the levels of progesterone begin to fall during what is referred to as the perimenopause years. This creates a state of relatively unbalanced estrogen known as estrogen dominance. When she runs out of eggs and stops menstruating she will abruptly lose both estrogen and progesterone and after 1 year of absent cycles we are allowed to proclaim menopause. During these periods other hormones are in flux and it’s not uncommon to have several other hormone imbalances including testosterone, DHEA, cortisol and the thyroid hormones. These hormone imbalances create symptoms that most women will become familiar with: Low libido, hot flashes, weight gain, cognitive decline and fatigue. Are you ready to take back control of your life?
